Richard Christiansen, 38, suffering from two gunshot wounds in a hallway at the house and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police arrested 34-year-old William Kues, who they said was hiding inside a bedroom, but did not specify any charges against him.
According to the suspect's uncle, Dale Mihuta, Christiansen rented the home from Kues's grandmother, 81-year-old Alma Jean Robertson, but rarely made his payments and quarraled with the Kues and his relatives.
The uncle said Kues, who had introduced Christiansen to his family, had exchanged guns as Christmas presents last month, and the pair had been drinking Thursday evening before they began arguing.
Christiansen was shot to death with the weapon he had bought Kues for Christmas, Mihuta said.
