Sonia Ann Rodriguez, as she being arrested and searched after a reported burglary attempt, freed one hand and pulled a gun on an officer as he adjusted her handcuffs, police said.
Officer David Pubins, spokesperson for the Scottsdale Police Department, gave this account of the incident:
At about 4 p.m. a man told three Scottsdale police officers that he saw people in the back yard of his father's home in the 7400 block of East Palm Lane trying to get in through the back door.
The suspects drove away in a red vehicle.
Officers found a vehicle leaving an alley close to the home and stopped it.
They arrested Octaviano Garza Meza, 29, on suspicion of an outstanding warrant and arrested Rodriguez on suspicion of not providing identification.
Officers began searching Rodriguez when she complained that her handcuffs were too tight.
As the officer adjusted the handcuffs, Rodriguez pulled a hand free, took a revolver from her waistband and pointed it at him.
One of the officers grabbed the gun from Rodriguez and disabled the trigger while other officers re-handcuffed her.
Police said Rodriguez made incriminating statements and was booked on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder and other weapons charges and was taken to the county jail.
